This past week I have had the great pleasure of attending Video Plus University in Dallas, Texas. Video Plus is the largest strategic partner to major network marketing companies around the world, providing almost anything a network marketing company could need, from branding to marketing and fulfillment. For the past 25 years they have been fueling the market, but this year they decided to ‘Raise the Bar,’ from the theme of the event, to the key note speakers. The bar has been raised.
Throughout the course of the week I was blessed to spend hours in the same room with owners and top executives of the biggest and best companies from every part of the world. During this time I realized this industry has some of the most generous and giving leaders you could ever imagine. Never before have I seen a room full competitors openly sharing information and struggles, while offering all the advice they have to each other for the betterment of the whole industry.
Over the next couple of weeks I will be sharing some of the nuggets of wisdom I got from the most respected, successful, minds in this great industry. But today, I want to share one key takeaway I got from one of my favorite speakers of all times, John Addison, CEO of Primerica. John led the way in separating Primerica from former parent company, Citibank, and last year Primerica did 1.2 billion in sales. Not only is John one of the most inspiring individuals I have ever met, he is also one of the kindest. Over the past three years I have had the great pleasure of getting to know John at these events and I always enjoy hearing him speak.
Today, his message was unbelievable. I wish I could share all the nuggets I gained, but for this post I want to focus on my biggest takeaway:
Find what you are good at and work hard at it.
It is a natural tendency to want work at those things in our life that we feel we are NOT good at. This is a huge mistake! John pointed out that if you work hard on what you are ALREADY good at, you can become GREAT. However, by working on those things we are not good at, the best we can ever do is become mediocre. We want to strive for greatness, not mediocrity. Find that one special thing you are good at, and master it. Be the best you can be. It is better to be a master at something, than a ‘jack of all trades.’
So, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on what your passion is. What is it that you are already GOOD at? Focus on that one thing, and go to work on it!
Surely some of the things I have learned this week will show up in my upcoming blog post. I hope they have the same impact on you as they did on me.

I wish you all the success you will allow yourself to have!
