Will you continue to believe? 1854

As big a sports fan as I am, the NBA has really not been something I have followed with a great deal of interest. However, like most sports junkies, I will pay particular close attention to the NBA finals, especially a series as interesting as this one has been with the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat. Game 6 of that series will go down as one of the all time greatest games in history. In fact, I watched every second of the game.

With one half to play and Miami facing elimination, they trailed the San Antonio Spurs by 10 points. Although Miami has been the huge favorite in this series, the Spurs veteran players have stepped it up a notch and have really out played the Heat thus far. Halfway thru the fourth quarter, it appeared the series would end and the Spurs would have the pleasure of participating in the trophy presentation on the Heat’s home court. In fact, many of the fans had given up hope and had left the building. The security was quickly preparing for the trophy presentation, assuming the Heat had lost. It did not look good for Miami. But, LeBron James, Ray Allen and Chris Bosh and the rest of the Miami Heat players were not finished! With 30 seconds to play and the Heat trailing by 5, they managed to, against all odds, and with a little help from San Antonio on the free throw line, tie the game with a 3 point shot from Ray Allen to send the game into over-time. There was still hope!
As I sat with my son and his friend watching the game Tuesday night, I couldn’t help but recall Jim Valvano’s famous speech in 1993, when he said, “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.” In that speech he also said to get to wherever you want to go, you must, have an enthusiasm for life, have a dream, and to be willing to work hard. Are you enthusiastic? Do you have a dream? Are you willing to work hard? The players for the Miami Heat were very enthusiastic, they had a dream to win the NBA Championship, and they obviously work very hard. But, they also had the intangible; they NEVER GAVE UP in game 6!

The Heat prevailed in over-time to send the series to game 7 tonight.
Are you willing to never give up even when the odds are stacked against you? What if all of your fans are walking out on you and security is getting ready for your demise. Will you keep the faith? Will you continue to believe?

Remember the great Jim Valvano, when he said, “Don’t give up, don’t ever give up.”
Wishing you all the success you will allow yourself to have!
P.S. I encourage you to take the time to watch Jimmy V’s famous speech, even if you have heard it before. It reminds us to live with passion, have a dream, to work hard- and Never Give Up!
