I am currently on a plane from a corporate training event in Dallas with my boyfriend and two best friends. Attending a life-changing weekend with the people you care about most is definitely “up there” in life experiences. Really, what could be more fulfilling?
I’m writing this because I want to make sure I don’t take this moment for granted. I’m stopping to appreciate the caliber of people in my life and their motivation to achieve more, to stretch, and to grow. People that are willing to scrounge up their last dollars to invest in themselves don’t come up often, so when they do, stop and appreciate them. They make you better.
If you want solid relationships in your life then make sure they grow you. My college psych professor (and coolest person I’ve ever met) gave us subtle life lessons throughout each class. She ended the course with her most profound lesson: love is only true love if you are making each other better. The people in your life should lift you up. They should inspire you, motivate you, and support you. Those are the ones worth keeping.
Along the way don’t forget to be the one worth keeping. Strive to make those around you better. Make small commitments to lift others up. Create energy, don’t suck it up. The more you give the more you get.
I also just realized something funny…the more you appreciate the positive people in your life, the less attention you give the negative ones. It’s just natural. I have a support group that loves me, the real kind of love. The kind that makes me better, and I hope I do the same for them.
Wishing you all the success you will allow yourselves to have!
